Comment:

I can remote into a home LAN pc with the IP number of the computer. This is within my home pc to another home pc. But Remote Desktop will not open a session if I use the computer name of the computer and if I browse for the PC, it will not see some pc's on the LAN or open them either by name.

Only if I use the IP number will it work.

I have 5 pc's on my LAN, all Windows XP.

Sounds like a DNS problem, but not sure how to resolve it.

Thank you for responding. Resetting the router I assume by turning it off and then back on.

What method are you referring to in resetting the network adapter? on just my pc or the other four in the home lan as well?

And what is the premise behind this? Is the router which takes care of the local DNS names?

Thank you.
