Help! I cannot login interactively to a Windows XP Professional client using Remote Desktop.
Relevant parts of home LAN:
1 PDC running Windows Server 2003
1 client running Windows XP Professional
1 LinkSys gateway/switch correctly configured to forward ports 3389 to the WinXP clientPreviously when I didn't have a PDC, I used to login using an administrator account, and remote desktop to the WinXP client without problems from work (external to the home LAN). However, since setting up a domain, I now login using a regular user account - a domain user account as opposed to a local user account on the WinXP machine, to be precise.
I've found that ever since switching to this arrangement, I can no longer login successfully to the WinXP machine via remote desktop. The error I get is "The local policy of this system does not allow you to log in interactively." In fact, I cannot login using any domain account, including Administrator. I am still able to login successfully via remote desktop using the local administrator account, but of course, it's a pain to access my email (Outlook) and other data specific to my everyday domain user account.
Going into Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy and modifying "Log on locally" and "Allow log in via Terminal Services" on the WinXP client to include my domain user account seems to be a step in the right direction. After I do this, I no longer get the above error, but instead I get: "You do not have access to log on to this Session."
Changing similar policies on the PDC (Domain Security Policies, Domain Controller Security Policies) seems to have no effect. What am I missing here?
Any ideas much appreciated! Thanks,
Allen
