what os are on both computers?
why do you need a remote desktop connection if you'll are that close together?
in xp dont youhave to "invite" someone to help you or aomething like that?
are you just trying to share files?
can one computer ping theother one is the first step?
ever looked at tighvnc if you really need remote desktop control?

I Have tryed to use remote desktop connection after I would invite someone I would try to connect to that computer and would allways come up with "unable to connect" so I gave up and used this real good program called "radmin Remote Administrator" and would be good for setuping software. It works very well on a 56k Modem.
