What do I need to do to remotely connect to a computer that is miles away from me. Each computer is on a different windows platform. Both computers are behind a router. Is there something built into msn messenger, or yahoo messenger, or is there a program that will allow that, or netmeeting or what??? Please help!!! I want to be able to remote control a computer that is miles away from mine. What needs to be done???

I suspect that you refer to VNC, PC Anywhere, Go to My PC and others, or TightVNC or Remote Desktop and versions of X and others and netmeeting and others.
Kinda depends on you. I used almost all of them and cost and install and ease of use and speed are mostly the issues. VNC is free and pretty easy but little or no security. Be aware that all of them use Ports that may require firewalls to be edited.
Notice to the right one the page you will see ads for remote control too.

Basically both computers have to have the same application running and a way to connect. Some apps only work on the internet and some will work on any connection.
