I am trying to get remote assistance to work so I can work on my brother in
law's comp from here. Problem is people can connect to me if I send them an
invite but I can connect to them if they send me one.

I either get a disconnected message or I get "Remote Assistance connection
could not be established because the remote host name could not be resolved"

I have used remote assistance with this comp and router before without
having to open any ports. I have also tried setting my router to DMZ and to
forward port 3389, neither work. I tried turning off windows firewall,
unistalling symantic AV, etc

When I go to System and look at Remote both the box that says "allow others
to control this computer" and allow this computer to connect to others are
both checked off.

I have tried the email method and changed the ticket to have the correct IP
address instead of the private IP that it sends but it still doesnt work.

What would allow someone to connect to me but not allow me to connect
to them? If I try to connect from my laptop to desktop it works fine but everytime I try to connect over the net it doesnt work. I have tried with 4 seperate people. I have port 3389 forwarded on my Linksys router.

Any other ideas?

Well. I disconnected the laptop from my network (just unplugged cat5) and left just the desktop and it now works. Something with the network must be screwing it up. I had the desktop set to static IP but not the laptop, maybe that had something to do with it?
