i was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible and if so, how, to access my home computer through the remote desktop connection feature in xp even though it is connected to a netgear router. i have XP pro so i know i can make my home computer the host but i can't seem to get it to work properly. i have also disabled the windows firewall and still cannot seem to be able to gain access. is this even possible with the router?

You need to port forward port 3389 in the router to the IP of the PC.

that helped but i still am hitting a bit of a snag. i get the window to go full screen and it asks for the logon and password. when i enter them it says "the local policy on this system does not allow you to logon interactively". any thoughts?

On the computer acting as host, any administrator accounts will have remote access by default. Any other accounts need to be specifically added - this might be your issue. Go back to the dialogue to turn on remote desktop and click the button to configure accounts.
