OS: Win XP
CPU/Ram: ???
Product: Toshiba Protege

Can anyone tell me how I would reload my rescue disc to my computer if the computer doesn't have a drive? I bought an external drive to try, but it needs Win XP to be already loaded on the computer to read it.
Thanks!

Do you mean you have an external CD reader? Does your computer support booting from a USB-CD? See bios selections for that. If so select the boot to usb-cd or usb device as first boot device.

There are also other ways to boot from usb flash and floppies. You can make a set of boot floppies for xp or as above a boot floppy with cd and usb support.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

I'm not sure if it does support booting from a USB-CD. I know it won't recognize it if I just plug it in. The guy who installed my new drive told me that I could press F12 or Delete to get to a list where I could choose from a list, but neither key works.
Thanks for your help on this!

If you don't want to save the data then
delete all the partitions & then install the
windows. If you want to save data then do a
repair re-install. Commands would be given on
each screen on the bottom of the screen on
the Grey line.

The hard drive has already been wiped out - a new one was put in. Now, I just need to figure out how to reload Windows off the resuce disc.

You need a bootable media. As you say your hard drive is not bootable.

So, you need to see the owners manual for your machine. It will tell you how to select a different boot media if it is supported.

Did you see any boot choices in bios?

The guy that said f12 may have been trying to access a boot choice menu. Some computer use F12 as a network boot forced choice.
