Sorry Can't be more specific in the Exact OS box as I need reinstal the original set-up from when I bought the PC.
When I insert the disc and set PC to Booot from DVD It copies the files and says finished. It then restarts and the Windows XP logo shows with a Progress bar the screen then changes and i get the following message
"When tyring to update a password a return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct"
Help!! how do I solve this problem?
I am using the DVD i created when i first switched the PC on and Followed the instructions. I am no PC genius (Obv) however I can find my way round one and am not afraid to follow basic guides.
The PC is an ACERany help much appreciated as it is now starting to annoy the C**P out of me.
Cheers
AJCH

Are you doing a fresh reinstall (where you get the option to format the drive) or a repair reinstall? The error you're getting is normally the result of a corrupted registry & doing a fresh reinstall shouldn't bring up this problem.
"I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..."

I'm Doing a fresh instal. I'm beginning to thing the back up disc is dodgy as when I install from a different XP disc It loads completely.
Only problem with this is it's not tjhe original Version of windows that came with the PC but one that came with a Laptop.

It sounds like your original try was using a RESTORE disk that you created when you first got the PC - is this correct? This is completely different process from installing fresh copy of windows - it should restore the machine to exactly what it was when you created the restore disk. If this process is not working as expected, you could try contacting Acer about the error message you are getting.
You can do a fresh install if you have an XP install CD that matches your version (which will probably be XP Home OEM). The key on the COA sticker will work with any install disk of the same type. If you do this, you will not return to how it was, and you'll (probably) need to obtain an install drivers for your hardware too.
PS. why the need to restore - what problem(s) have you had.
