I am trying to re-install XP Professional on my laptop. I can get as far as rebooting, then the laptop will boot from disk and run all the way until you try to format the Hard drive. It comes up with an error of not being able to find the hard drive. I am not really sure what the problem is.

The laptop has a bunch of security. It has a power on Password, Which I am not able to disable.

Some other things about this laptop is that it has a blue ThinkVantage button. The fingerprint is on. And you have a password for power on, and a password to long into windows.

My brother and I are really stumped on this laptop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, any reviews about HP's Tablet PC? Good or Bad

To add more info.

The error message was that: could not detect any hard disk drives on the computer. I hope this helps.

Press F6 and load the appropriate SATA drivers from floppy disk when when prompted to do so (in the white bar down the bottom at the beginning of the installation)

you have no floppy drive? not all is lost.
integrate the SATA drivers into your xp installation CD

how to do that?

you don't know which driver you need? here's a download link to the latest DriuverPack MassStorage, covering the most common SATA/RAID controllers.

Check that your BIOS is set to the correct SATA mode. The common options are usually:
RAID, SATA or AHCI, IDE.

I think the security stuff is going to stop you from doing anything with this Laptop. This is by design.

If you are the legitimate owner of the Laptop, contact IBM for help with this issue.

Hey thanks for the help. I got the OS on the computer now. The problem was in the BIOS under SATA. I just needed to turn it on to compatibility. I am now on the hunt for the correct drivers.
