Re-installed XP Home on new HD (from Dell provided reinstallation CD - all legal). Following problems:
1. Some Files (dll, exe etc) not found. However, loaded the OS
2. Everytime I log on,I have to manually re-start services in the .msc file, even after I have saved the new file.
3. Setup log file shows a lot of errors...
4. I had an external (USB) HD attached to the system.

Any ideas how I can get the OS installed clean? Then I can go on the web and get the updates and Service Packs.
Any ideas why??????

Don't install with any external drives connected. Flash or USB external.
