I need to re-install XP but my CD is not bootable. I have already changed the bios to boot first from CD...
How can I proceed to re-install XP? Must I find a way to boot from this CD?

The only time I've had this problem is if the CD I'm using is a burned CD and the machine is an older P1 or P2. Is this the case? If so, you may need to try another CD, CD Drive or both. I think all Windows XP CDs are supposed to be bootable. If I'm not mistaken, Windows CDs were bootable back to Windows 98. If none of this coincides with your situation, please provide more info.

I know that if you can't boot a linux bootable cd you can copy a cd image onto a floppy and then boot up the floppy and it will in turn boot the cd. Though I'm not sure if you can do that to a window cd. Try to get hold of a copy of xp boot floppy. but don't know if that would help.

have you tried booting from a windows 98 boot disk with cd support, change to the windows directory, and type winnt, this should start the installation from the cd

Unless you have more than one computer, I'll assume that your XP still boots. Put the cd in the drive when choose install, once you're in XP. I've never done it with XP pro, but with .NET, it gives you the option to do a clean install. Choose that option if so, and it'll copy the necessary files and reboot your machine. This time it should boot off the temp files it copied when you chose the fresh install option, and you won't need to boot from the cd. From there it'll start the install process.
