Reinstalling Windows XP without CDs

Comment:
I have an Acer Aspire RC900, and recently have had lots of small problems without IE and SP2 and lots of other things. I am sick of figuring out every little problem and so I want to reinstall Windows XP and start over.
But Acer doesn't supply the Windows CD's as it is pre-installed. The only thing their recovery discs was resetting the whole system and losing all my files. Obviously that is not an option.
Can someone tell me how to reinstall XP without CD's and not losing my files?

This is the peril of buying OEM machines from M$ Partners. It's a lesson learned the hard way and much too late. There is no way to reinstall XP without CD. Backup your files as Arctos suggested then use what you are stuck with.

Load up your recovery cds.
Browse them and look for a folder called i386 If you see that folder Copy the whole folder, to your c:\
Make sure you copied the folder and not the contents of the folder. Make yourself a bootfloppy or a boot cd. Enter the i386 folder from dos, and type winnt.exe
This will start the install of windows. Simply overwright the windows you have now and all your data will be saved.
