I recently got a computer that when it was first baught it was running windows XP. The hard drive has been formatted and partitioned and windows 98 installed. I would like to reinstall windows XP on the new half of the hard drive without wiping off windows 98 or the contents of the original c:. When I insert the windows XP recovery cd there is a message that says that recovering all the programs that came with the computer will wipe the contents of the hard drive. Does anyone know how to install it without this happening. Any help would be much appreciated.

you have a RESTORE CD not a retail (or oem) version. Basically this will not clean install XP like you wish to do, but will restore the system to the way it was when purchased. You need a retail or oem version to do what you want.
