reinstalled xp needs sp2

Specs: Windows Vista
I had to replace the HDD in an old Dell inspiration 1000. I reinstalled xp and the necessary drivers. I can connect to my network and I have sound, good video, and media player. My version of IE is outdated and causing conflicting problems. I believe I need to install sp2 as the Version is sp1, this woudl/should allow me to upgrade my IE Hoping this will eliminate the problems. I can not get the data from old HDD as it is toast

Get SP3 in order to receive updates from MS. The link below is for the redistributable version, which you can save to disk or slipstream into your WinXP sp1 files and burn a new CDR. If you are interested in doing that then download nliteos from the second link below. Very easy to use. You can also integrate SATA drivers into the slipstream.

I might be wrong, but I don't think you can go straight from sp1 to sp3. I think you need to go to sp1a first

A thank you would be nice, if I have helped.

all service packs are cumulative which means they contain the previous sp updates.

ps your link says "If you have already installed Windows XP SP1, you do not need Windows XP SP1a."

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.

SP1a was introduced to remove the MS Java Virtual Machine after sun Micro-systems sued Microsoft and won. The same Updates was incorporated into SP2 but was removed from SP3.

So if you were updating from a vanilla XP or XP with SP1, you will need to install SP1a or SP2 before SP3.
