I had to reinstall XP and now modem won't work. It is an internal Conexant. Ran Dell utility which says it is working and interacting with windows. When I try to log to AOL I get as far as talking to network but doesn't connect. It dials the AOL number.
I am not sure how I should have the Network connection set up...maybe I have something wrong there.
Also...Norton gives me an error on startup telling me my network connection is not correct.
PLEASE HELP ME. I have been trying to fix this for 12 straight hours. I'm a novice and I'm at my wits end. I'm about ready to throw PC away and buy a new one. (BTW...I'm typing this from my 6 year old stand-by)

No yellow marks in device driver. The drivers did work before I reinstalled XP. 1.8 is too big for disk...no zip on newer pc.
Any other suggestions?
I have a cable modem for newer pc...should I expect to have comm problems with that? I'm planning to dump AOL anyway. Should I just install cable modem and be done? I don't want a bandaid...i would like to fix problem.

Sorry, If you are talking about a cable modem then I'm out of my depth. One thing that comes to mind. Usually with cable modem you have a static IP address. You may need to configure this in your settings but I don't know how. I suggest contact your ISP helpdesk.
