Hi guys,
I have a problem. My dads computer just
crashed and came up with an error code of
{C0000219}. Apparently it's a bad registry.
Can I repair this and use it as it was? I've
tried looking up this info and I get stuff
about using the recovery console but I don't
know what commands to use. Any suggestion
would be great.thanks,
shawn
Can you boot to Safe Mode?

No I can't. It will do the same thing as
regular where it's will bring up the windows
logo, load, and just before the login screen
crashes giving me the error. that's
attempting regular and safe mode. I've also
tried reverting to the last good
configuration with no success.

Ty for the link XpUser4Real, but I don't know
how to begin using the commands to attempt to
repair the registry. This is what I need to
know.

You might be better off doing a repair install using an XP CD, if you have one. You would then have to reinstall all of the XP updates. You could also try using the Dell recovery option-but then you would have to reinstall your programs, and you would lose all of your data.

I'd love to do a repair install but the only
Windows cd I have is the one for my Dell
laptop. It's xp home and the desktop is xp
pro. I don't think I can do a repair using
that can I?

I don't think you can. I would try running some of the registry tools from the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows. You can burn it to a CD and then boot to it and run some of the registry tools.

hmm, I've never heard of that but I will look
and try. thank you.

No, if you have XP home you will need an xp home CD or vise versa, you can't mix and match. I've never had too much success trying the ultimate boot CD.
Maybe ask around to friends and family and see if you can get an XP Pro install CD. I'm sure there are lots around. Good Luck

Just occurred to me, can I use a Windows XP
Pro cd that was store bought as opposed to
the Dell branded? What's the difference
between a retail windows version vs Dell
branded?

Try out the store bought XP Pro. Here's how to do a repair install:

You could contact Dell and request the Recovery CD for the Pro version. You should have received one anyway.
