Hi,
I am trying to make a .reg file. In this .reg file I want to change the registry to change the menu (from the Start Button) style to Classic. However, the only registry change I can find, forces Classic and takes away the option for a user to switch back to the XP default. Is there a registry change that will allow me to change to Classic, yet still leaving the option for changing to the original Start Menu?
Thank you,
Paul

Hi XpUser,
Thank you for your help, but I am trying to do it from the registry so that i can make about 20 or 30 changes when I load up a machine for a business I am working for.
Thank you,
Paul

I see, ok. Try THIS link. It tells you how to change the registry to force the use of the classic start menu.

Hi XpUser,
Yeah, that is the one that I had been trying but it removes the option to switch back to the original menu style.
This seems so close!

Thank you,
Paul

I don't think its easy to toggle between XP Menu mode and the Classic Start Menu because it requires you to manually modify the shell state in the registry. The toggle switch is explained in THIS link. If you can make it work through the reg file, that would be miraculous. Please let us know of the outcome.

I don't modify those keys myself so I can't give you the exact one, but what you may want to do is go out and download a registry comparison tool. Then take a snapshot of the existing registry, make the manual change you want, then take another snapshot of the registry. Then just compare the two and see what's different (you'll have a lot of other junk that's related to versioning and such stuff, but it should narrow it down for you)...
