Is there a registry editor for inactive registry files? One that could be used to edit windowsXP registry files from the %systemroot%\system32\config folder from within another OS?

Let's say you messed up your registry (the registry permissions, for example) and you can't log in WinXP any longer. But if you have another OS installed on your system one could edit the registry from within another OS.

But for that one would need a registry editor that is able to edit inactive registry files. Is something like that available on the market?

If you don't know how to edit in notepad, and think this response is spam, then you really shouldn't be fooling around the registry in the first place.

You can use notepad to edit just about everything. I would suggest you learn more about the registry before you end up posting another problem about corrupt reg entries.

exactly how are you editing a binary registry file in notepad that is used for viewing and editing ascii files? the files in the systemroot%\system32\config are all in binary format. I don't even know why I am talking to you, it's like talking to an idiot, I thought you were joking, but you are seriously suggesting editing binary files in notepad, my god, did your daddy buy you your first computer yesterday?
