How do i clean up entries in my registry caused by trial softwares? I am worried that these entries could lead to virus or spyware downloading into my system or am i just being paranoid.
Thank you.

you're not being paranoid. unfortunatly that is how many spyware programs get onto people's computers nowadays :(

the only way to really cleanup your registry is format your system. there are loads of programs which claim to clean up registries but i'm afraid they aren't worth the hassle!

there is a program which monitors your registry (think it's called 'regmon') which you can run when installing software and it will log all the changes to the registry. this might be your best bet as most uninstaller software does not take away all the files/entries it adds.

*you can then check the entries have been removed your self.

another way you can help your self is to install a spyware program which constantly runs, like CounterSpy or MS Anti-Spyware, as these will stop most bad stuff landing on your system in the first place.

If you've uninstalled the software you can then use a registry cleaner - the safest I've found is 'Regseeker' which will search for registry entries which aren't linked to anything & let you remove them. Don't be too surprised if they amount to many hundreds!! You can look through them individually just to be sure but I've used it on many systems to good effect - just export/copy your registry and set a restore point beforehand if you want to be sure.

Use of a free tool like RegShot can track what an install does.

There is also a companion called UNDOReg by bAsH! which cleans registry via the logs from RegShot, InCtrl or System Mechanic.
