It all started with a file I downloaded from limewire a p2p file sharing program which I really like using. I believe I had the W32.Alcra.C , a worm that spreads through file-share networks and attempts to disable several programs on the compromised computer. I have followed the instruction for removal however... I am getting a message that states "REGEDIT IS NOT A VALID WIN32 APPLICATION" .... I can get to regedit if I do a windows search. When I do a search for Regedit windows finds the following files
Regedit.chw
Regedit.CH_
Regedit.HL_
REGEDIT.EXE-1B606482.pf
along with 3 icons to get to the registry editor and registry edit help that does not help me at all. Ok that’s my story can anyone help me. I do not know if I have the worm still or just have a malish file that is still doing the dirty work. OOOO yea I have uninstalled and wiped clean every thing I could find about the program limewire that I’m not giving up on. I just want my PC to run like it suppose to with out spreading ill will to everyone HELP PLEASE....
Thank You For your Time:

Well if you want to stop receiving virus's stop using p2p apps. You will not get to much tea and sympathy here.
Unity is strength.

Did the removal instructions tell you to turn system restore off? If you have not turned system restore off, now would be a good time to try using it. You have to have the best antivirus program there if you are going to use p2p. p2p is one place the bad guys love to give people the nice gifts they have made.

G'day Tim, I sympathise as I would be totally lost without my "Reggie".
First thing I would do is remove the -1B606482.pf from Regedit.exe and see if it opens. Secondly, if that doesn't work I would rename it to Regedit.com and it should open, maybe. The other files I would nuke but one could be the original so a change of extension on any of them might work, but it could be a trap as well.
Thirdly, there should be a fresh and hopefully uneffected copy of Regedit.exe and most other .exe's in your \Windows\System32\dllcache folder that you can replace or simply run from there.

I just remembered that Regedit.HL_ [.hlp] and Regedit.CH_ [.chm] are the help files that should be in the Help folder.
Regedit.chw does look a bit suss to me though

you will also find a folder in Windows called Prefetch You can delete all the files in there. the file Regedit.exe.1b606-482pf can be found there. so delete it
