regedit missing!

Comment:
When I type regedit in Run and press OK I get a message to say that Windows cannot find regedit. As my computer is working OK I assume that I must have a registry to edit so I would appreciate it if someone could please tell me how I can solve this problem. Thanks.

Noel, There should be a spare copy of Regedit.exe in the C:\Windows\System32\Dllcache folder. Right click it and choose Copy then Paste it into the C:\Windows folder and see if that corrects the problem. First go into Folder Options and under the View tab choose show hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide protected system operating files, click Apply/OK.

Another possibility is that the environment variable that maps to the system folder may be incorrect. When you type in an executable name in the run box without a path it has only a few locations that it looks for that executable.

Easiest way if you have the admin privilege is to do what Tufenuf said. C:\Windows\System32\Dllcache folder\regedit.exe
download my xp theme at http://www.themexp.org/ in visual style under music : "Misplaced Marillion" and "Script for a jester Marillion" under nature: "high as a sky pie" and "Mother nature and Fat

One doesn't need an Admin account to open the Registry.
