I tried the MS scanner and after 5 minutes and 4% I cancelled. Much too slow for me. I am still using JVpowertools 1.6. Due to no recent updates to that program some things are identified as safe to remove when they may be needed. You do need to look the list over. That said I still feel it is one of the best cleaners.

That said, registry cleaners are only really needed when poorly written software is uninstalled or an installation fails to complete.

Well, I tried to use the free online scan at MS, but didn't care for the service agreement that popped up, so I cancelled on that. And just what I was afraid of, I tried regcleaner 4.3 and it didn't work. It installed ok, but when I tried the shortcut on the desktop several times, nothing happened. It showed in the task manager as running, yet I couldn't see it. Darn!

I guess I'll look into ccleaner although that may be more than I wanted.

Thanks all

I have an Icon on the desktop for Regcleaner in WinXPsp2 and it works fine. You may need to redo creating the shortcut. Try the long way by right clicking the .exe and using the create shortcut option. Then cut and paste to desktop and rename.
I occasionally use ccleaner but I don't believe it includes a registry cleaner.

Nope, didn't work with a new shortcut, won't open. But it will still show up in running processes. Must be something on this system it's not compatible with.
