To get the command prompt, click start, all programs, accessories, command prompt. Not sure if you could format it via DOS. I think you have to boot up either from a boot disk or from a CD-ROM before you can format the drive.

Just boot from the XP cd and follow the directions. It will format and reinstall.
Please post back within 24 hours or I will delete the post from my follow up list. Thanks. It would be a courtesy if you would post back and let us know if the fix worked or not.

Boot up off of the Windows XP CD. The setup routine allows you to format. Depending on how the boot order is set in your BIOS, you may need to change it to boot from the CDROM first.

What seemed to happen when i booted from cd and started going through the installation steps, that it was just going to install another xp on top of my old one. Btw i am using a different Xp to last one, will this make a difference?

You can even delete/create partitions with the XP cd, so don“t give up :) I`m sure there are loads of guides to help you with the XP installation. Google!
