reformatting without losing data

my computyer has both linux and xp on it, but it wont boot from either one of them, and neither will it go into safemode, how do i reinstall windows xp without having to lose all data, cause i cannot lose my work , i will be killed if i do !!!! , any body help????

The subject title, reformatting without losing data is more of a wishful thinking. It doesn't happen. Format a hard drive is always destructive - it wipe clean all data.

More importantly, I'd fix whatever was causing your system to not boot.

Boot your xp cd and go into recovery console. Run fixboot and fixmbr then see if you can't get in. If not then proceed to a repair install [not new install].

Google xp repair install for the how to. It won't touch your data.

Last thing you want to do is format your drive. Doing so will lose all info.
