Interesting... you have 512 Megabytes of RAM and XP is still running slow? I run a Pentium III with 256 Megabytes of RAM and it runs just fine. Also have a PII 333Mhz w/128MB RAM and it runs flawlessly as well.
Are you intending to reformat the drive and reinstall XP Pro or are you going to reformat and install another Operating system? If reinstalling XP Pro, just configure your computer to boot from CD and start up your computer with the XP Pro disk in the CD-ROM drive. XP will give you a list of options. You can do a quick reformat, full reformat, can format FAT 32 or NTSF.
If reformatting to install a previous version of Windows, try visiting www.bootdisk.com and download the appropriate boot disk. You will need to know a few DOS commands to partition and format your drive. Finally, if you don't want to deal with all of that, I have an easy to use bootdisk to help you format to FAT32 or NTSF, It works with Windows 95/98/2000/ME/XP. It has an easy to use interface with menus & step by step instructions (you don't need to know DOS for this boot disk to work). Try one of the first two suggestions I gave you, but if you want to opt for the last one...email me.

ReInstall xp pro, and when you are asked if you wish to update a previous version or do a clean install, take the clean install option. This will reformat the C drive before it installs. Or you can go to this address for more info.
