I recently reformatted my hard drive on both my laptop and desktop. I plugged my network cable into my laptop and with in a few minutes I was on-line. With my desk top it has been a nightmare. I have spent a lot of time and still can't get online. It seems like the computer dosen't recognize the connection. I downloaded belarc to see which modem i have, but downloading drivers is not as easy at it sounds, if thats even the problem. Please help i'm going crazy.

Do you have the Dell driver CD? The NIC driver is on it.

Dell driver CDs can be a little tricky. You think you installed it but you didn't. It happened to me a couple of times.
Dell drivers are in zip files. You unzip them and they are extracted to a directory but that's not the same as installing them. You have to go to the directory and actually run the driver.
They will be in c:\dell\drivers\Rxxxx Example: R62134 or something like that.

Are you using the same cable for both computers? If so, you'll have to either reboot the modem after moving the cable, or do an ipconfig /release and then a renew to obtain an IP address on the desktop.
FYI, all the drivers you need (updates included) are on the support.dell.com website. All you have to do is enter your ST number.
