Just got a notebook with XP home. I would like to reformat and do a clean install but would also like to create a partition using fat32. How do I go about this?

Richard, How many partitions do you have at present? What partition do you want to make fat32? If the partition that you want to make fat32 is not the partition where your OS is on then you can format it right clicking on the drive you desire and chose format and you will have the option to format to fat32. Hey M@NNY, I want to format my hard drive and decide whether to put 2K or XP in. I have a 10gb drive and want my OS in a 9gb partition and a spare 1gb partition to move files to (audio etc) in the event of a reformat. Any clues? I'm used to the dos commands for 9x but these 32-bit jobs have me stumped. Cheers.......

Just use a Win98 boot floppy to boot with then at the "A" prompt type fdisk and follow the prompts from there. If you want to create an extra partition using this method you will have to delete the exisiting primary partition and lose all existing data, but it will give you the opportunity to create extra partitions. However the other way is by using a third party partitioning software such as Partition Magic 7.0 which allows you to create partitions without losing data. It also comes with Boot Magic that can be used as a boot manager so you can choose which OS to boot into at startup.
