I have windows XP Home cd. Only options are upgrade and clean install. Clean install only places a 2nd copy of XP Home and leaves to 1st. I can't figure out how to reformat HD and start from scratch. Help.
thanks.
Jim

You need to use the CD as a bootdisk by setting CDROM as 1st Boot Device in your BIOS, putting the CD in the drive, and rebooting.
Once at the Xp setup screen make like you were doing a fresh install. When you see available drives/partitions to install to, highlight the drive you want to format and press D to delete that drive/partition, you can then format it in the file system you want and reinstall Xp.
If you have problems booting from the Xp CD, you need to d/load the 6 Xp startup floppies from Microsoft.com (make sure you get the right set, Pro or Home) and use those for the initial boot process. They do the same thing, take you to the Xp setup screen where you will be then asked to insert your CD.
