Hi
I have just got a new pc. I bought xp pro separately for it. When I came to install pro, I put in the cd but nothing happend. I lost my patience and put in my xp home disk and it installed fine. It appeared to format before it installed homeOS though. So I am thinking was the hard drive not formatted and so it refused the xp pro diak? I want to try again but dont know how uninstall home and reinstall xp pro. Can anyone guide me please?
thanks
bridiebee

The easiest and fastest way for you to get xp pro is to simply upgrade from home. Pop in the xp pro cd and run the setup from within windows.

Bridiebee: Verify that your CD-ROM is your 1st boot device and not your HDD-0. Then put in your Windows XP Pro and format your C drive, which will eliminate your Home Edition version. After the completion of the format, it should go right into the installation of your Pro version. With all due respect to the 1st response, you should start with a clean install of Windows and not carry over remnants of another version by upgrading over another version. This is how I installed my Windows Pro on my computer. Good Luck.

If the machine boots from the XP home Cd, it certainly should boot from the XpPro cd. Is the cd clean, unscratched?

Is it a factory CD?

So far as I know, ALL X tra P utrid cd's are bootable.

Gilloz, i agree that the best way to install xp is via a clean install, however if she cannot boot from her xp pro cd it might be because it is a pirated copy. I have run into these cds in the past, and some just wont boot. If her xp home cd will boot but the xp pro one will not, this might be her problem. In this case the only option she has is an upgrade. Either that or use WinPE to install xp pro, however i doubt bridiebee has it.

OK Brokenchild468. It appears that this Windows XP Pro is a new disc and should be returned or an exchange, depending on where or how it was purchased. Stores are cautious about accepting returned software, but if it has a problem and you have all the paperwork and packaging, why shouldn't they exchange it? Bridiebee, when you say nothing happened, can you explain what you saw on the monitor or anything else that could give you a clue?
