Reducing the size of an AVI File?

Hi - i've recently bought a smart phone that can play avi/wmv files - however, as the screen is only a few cm wide it was wondering if you could reduce the size of movie files to cut down on the storeage space...
Could you reduce the resolution with any programme from download.com?

What resolution do you need to get it down to? I don't think that I have seen one lower than 320x240, but I'm not an expert.

look for a program on google called....PocketDivXEncoder this will reduce a 700 meg avi file to about 36 meg....its an encoder for smart phones.I use it all the time and it works a treat.
