redirect usb to com port

June 26, 2009 at 10:34:53
Specs: Windows XP
I work for a school that is using a lunch program that will only accept a serial printer. Is there a way to redirect a usb port to a com port so we can use our usb receipt printer with the program?

Thanks,

Ginger

You may just want to try redirecting the com port to a shared printer on the PC.

Shared the printer
Create a batch file to redirect the port to the printer
net use com1 \\pcname\printer

Usually people use a small adapter that allows usb to com port.
They cost about $5 or so.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

I will try the batch file when I go back to work on Monday...I had not thought of that. As for the adapter, I looked and all I could find made a serial cable able to plug into usb, not the other way around. If you know someone who sells them, please let me know.

Thanks,

Ginger
