I'm trying to play Red ALert 2 on a LAN with two Win XP machines. I can get to the point where they see each other in the lobby, but they can't chat or join a game.
I've messed around with the IPX settings, but if anyone has done this successfully, let me ask for the following:
Under IPX settings, what do you put for internal network number, frame rater and network number? Do you have to set a specific ip address for each machine?
Also, n the game, under the options and network buttons, I can pick a network card, a socket number, a destination network and a box about internet firewall settings where I can set a port #.
If anyone has set this up successfully, I would greatly appreciate the tips on how to do it. Thanks,
Rick

You need to install the ipx protocol on both machines and make sure you choose a different ipx address within the game for each machine. Im pretty sure if you go to the properties of your network card and some where there you can add a protocol. Sorry i cant be more specific im on a win 98 machine at the moment and cant check. Let us know how you get on and i'll get u runnin ;)!!

If harry is right (which I think he is, i had to do this to get delta force on a lan) you need to do the following
on the desktop click the network link (never remember its name).
Right click the ethernet LAN icon in the main space and goto properties.
Next highlight your LAN card and click the add button, then add a protocol, the 'something IPX' one (its obvious when you see if but I cannot remember its full name)
On the properties screen highlight IPX protocol you added and click properties.
Make sure that both PC's have a different address (I think the format is 0000001, you'll see it) Make sure that the IPX protocol is bound to the LAN card.
I am also on a win98 machine at the moment so these instructions are a bit fuzzy, sorry ;)
Hope that helps
-Chris

I've got IPX on both machines, and I've played back and forth with different addresses, same addresses, nothing seems to matter. For those of you doing it on Win98, what are your settings inside of the RA2 game? What do you have for the destination network and what do you have for any of the other settings inside RA2?
Thanks, Rick
