I have tried everything! I have both computers running windows XP with LAN connections that normally work just fine. I have the setting for Ethernet 802.3 with the IPX protocols set up. I can enter the Network area of RA2 but the computers will not recognize eachother. What should I do?

well, you have to use the IPX protocol for a network game in RA2. What you might want to do is create a network setup disk on the prime computer and use it on the client cpu. Or... You could try unplugging the modem from the hub/router. I know that sometimes helps computers to identify each other. Does file and print sharing work.. Can you see both computers in the MY NETWORK PLACES??
Unpluging the modem and restarting both cpu's without it should clear things up... Then plug the modem back in after all is well. Ur problems should be gone after that.
I got RA2 as well. hit me up on the net sometime, or we could use vpn for a network game... My screen name for RA2 is shad4100.

I have EXACTLY the same problem, i read that XP has compatabilty problems somewhere.
But i suppose i will have to go and buy the legal version and that will sort it out :p

Hi i work in a lan center we have RA2 on our systems our network is ip but we need to get ipx working to play the game ive got two working but it wont detect any more do u know anything i can do apart from the above ??????????

I maintain a network at where i work and have experianced similar problems. but do not dispair for i have an answer...
Make sure that the IPX protocol is installed under Win XP, then enter the game if you go to options and then Networking you will see at the top something that resembles a MAC address mad of about 10 pairs of 2Hexdecimal digits, the top one has mostly 00 00 00 00 00 00 at the end but the other 2 have 00 00 00 00 at the start chose either of the 2 which have 00 00 00 00 at the start and it should work if not use the other 1 of the 2.
please E-mail me with other problems and to let me know when you have it working.
Thanks Ashley

RAH!!!
It worked Ashley you are a star!
Thanks man now i can get back to my co-op gaming and destroy Yuri once and for all! :D

If you install ipx on windows xp it will automatically assign a generic network number to that protocol of 0000000. The machines can't have the same number or they won't see each other and ipx games won't work. Ashley above was somewhat correct in having you change optional other card addresses defined by red alert 2. But if you want to fix it all together, you need to go into your ipx settings under network connections in windows and just change each machine to a different number.. ie... 0000001 , 00000002, 0000003 and so on
