Whenever I try to empty the recycle bin, I am confronted by the message, "Cannot delete SYSTEM: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." Yet, nothing is shown if I open or explore the bin. And yes, I have set my folder options to show hidden files. Does anyone know how to get rid of this pesky message.
Alternatively, someone has suggested that I look in the recycle bin named SYSTEM. If there is such a thing, how do I find it?

I've had the same trouble? do you have Norton installed?
but here is how I fixed it. find some files or make a buch or files useles ones. put them in the trash. then Reboot
after reboot. then empty trash. this fixed it on mine. not sure what was wrong with it.

If you have a windows 9x boot disk and your drive is in FAT32, you should be able to do it from there. One you get into the recycle bin, type this minus quotation marks and items within parentesis:
"attrib system.* -s -h -w (enter(
del system.*" (enter)This will delete all items in your recycle bin. I know this works if your system is FAT32, and not in NTFS form. (win9x wont recognize drives in NTFS) If your drive is in NTFS format structure, it might work from the DOS emulation box, nut I don't know. I have always used the boot disk metod myself.

Thanks for the suggestions.
1) I am running Norton. The idea of deleting a bunch of files, re-booting, and then emptying the recycle bin did not work.
2) I get "Parameter format incorrect - -w" when I try the attrib command from the boot disk. If I try it from Command Prompt under windows, I get "Invalid switch - -W"
