Hi

I want to install Windows 2000 On my laptop, because I think XP is kind of slow with 240mb of ram. I wonder if my recovery Cd's ( I got 3 ) will allow me to reinstall Windows XP if I change my mind ? Will it work, or it will not because I will dellete the current operating system on my computer ?

Thanks

If it is a full set of the xp program then it will allow you to reinstall it at any time. It WILL NOT allow you to install it to any other partition except C....so this makes dual booting a problematic issue

Just so long as you have not got any corruptions on one or more of your recovery CDs.

It is known to happen where the recovery CDs have been found to have errors on them and the user is then unable to go back to the original.

You then have to go back to the supplier and that maybe costly or at worst they may no longer be supporting it.

Also be aware that if you create more partitions on your hard drive and later do a recovery, it is possible that you may loose those partitions. This used to be the case in the past. Modern recovery CDs may do it differently.

Recovery CDs should be tested immediately on purchase of the system to be sure that they work. Also if a writer is available then one should take working backups in case.

I second mosaddique's comment about repartitioning, don't do it. Formatting the C: drive should be ok.
