most of the time this error occurs when you are trying to reinstall windows xp using Winnt32.exe. but your case is a bit different you need to launch Winnt32.exe by clicking on to My computer and then select c : drive in it select folder i386 and navigate to the winnt32.exe. Double click the exe file. It will launch windows setup page and ask you to open click any key if you want to continue

Now select the Launch Setup not the boot legacy operating system. It;s the boot legacy option that is creating the error disk read error. Once done with this you need to follow the instruction on the screen and you might get rid of the problem. Even after this if you are not able to solve the problem or the data is lost you need a data recovery software that I will recommend stellar web link

You can try 'installing' temporarily in a desktop to see if the rest of the drive is readable, if it is, copy everything important immediately. Once you have saved your files, you can try saving the drive, or simply replace, reinstall, and transfer your files back.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.
