Comment:

I recently bought a laptop hard drive to use as an external drive (I have no laptop). It came with XP pre-installed but the guy doesn't remember the serial key. When I power on the external drive I can see the Windows directory and all other directorys. When I use my keyfinder program it will only find my main XP key, which I already have. How can I retrieve the other XP's key if I'm not using the external drive as boot (and can't because my PC isn't compatible with the small drive)?

The keyfinder only retrieves the Key on my C:\Windows drive. My external drive is the one I need the key from.

Is there a way to edit the registry on the external drive's Windows directory? I mean, where in the Windows directory does the registery exist, then maybe I can look there for the key.

Or, is there a way to use an external drive, via USB 2.0, to boot the PC? Because then I can use the keyfinder.

The loadhive program worked very well!

I also read that you can boot XP off an external drive, but it is a bit difficult.
