Specs: Windows XP
My system been infected with a virus and I did a scan with AVG in safe mode and I came across a post that said I should turn off system restore to get rid of the virus effectively. I did that and restarted and I got error c000021a bsod. Since then, I have tried so many things using the windows xp cd. First of all, the xp cd does not recognize my windows installation. So I went into recovery console and checked for all the necessary files. It was missing winlogon.exe under system32. So I copied it from my laptop running windows xp onto a cd. Then I copied it into system32 file using recovery console. Then I restart and finally the blue screen of death is gone. But windows is now stuck at the login screen showing "admin" and "guest" and the mouse and keyboard are not working. WHat can I do to get this to work? Please help. thanks

Difficult to tell what happens in a virus attack.

Could try a repair using the cd.

Personally I'd start all over and just load the whole os and apps back on.

If you must, use a live linux cd or make a barts PE disk to get your files off. Be warned that they may be damaged or infected.

Could use a ultimate boot cd to use some of the tests. See memtest and hard drive diags just in case it is a hardware issue.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?
