My computer deleted all files that were on a IOMEGA 100MB zip disk, but created a folder in the zip disk called FOUND.000 in which it saved (it looks like) all the files in the form "File1234.chk".
the problem is - there were 1500 files, and now I don't know what original file each of the .CHK files correspond to.
It looks like if I just rename a .CHK file to give back its proper extension (e.g. .DOC or .XLS), they work fine. The problem is - just by looking at "File1365.chk", I don't know what program created it and therefore what the proper extension is.
Is it possible to recover all the files back to their original form?
A related problem is that the computer that deleted the files in my zip disk does not display the FOUND.000 folder. i found this folder when I inserted the zip disk in another computer.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I've never attempted to recover a a CHK file for the simple fact you need to be a programmer and even if you are the odds are still against you in any type of proper recovery. You can continue to search but I've never found a simple way to recover them.
