In troubleshooting a problem I had, I had to adjust the boot sequence in the BIOS. Now that my problem is fixed I would like to know what the recommended sequence is. I have the choices of CD Rom, Hard drive, and floppy. What sequence should I use? Thanks

You should do
1. hard drive
2. floppy
3. CDWindows XP PRO SP2 RC2
Intel P4 2.53 Ghz
768mb ddr ram
120 GB hd/80GB 2nd hd (Windows XP Home)
64mb Nvidia G-force 4 MX
Sound Blaster 5.1
440W Power Supply
DVD ROM
CD RW

with the F12 Function(One Time Boot) on most new Computers the sequence doesn't matter as much but the generally accepted default would be
Floppy
Harddrive
CD-ROM

what a question .. well well well ,
lets say ... it doesnt really matter if u set the cd-rom then it wont boot on it until u insert a bootable cd ... same for the floppy .. so y dont u put the hard disk ..
then the problem is solve !

CDROM
Floppy
Hard DriveWhat is the point of putting CDROM last?
If you want to boot from the CD for example to do some repair or install an OS then you have to fiddle around with the BIOS.With the way I have shown if you do not have a bootable CD in the CDROM drive and no floppy in the floppy drive then you will boot with your hard drive as normal.
Admittedly the boot up sequence takes just a wee bit longer as it looks for a bootable CDROM, then a bootablee floppy before deciding to boot from a hard drive. However, the delay is negligible.

Hi bluejay- go with mossadique's setup. It saves having to go to the bios if you want to boot from a floppy or a cd.
Please post back within 24 hours or I will delete the post from my follow up list. Thanks.

I agree with PER...
CD
Floppy
HDYour BIOS automatically jumps to the next drive if OS is not found on the one being looked at anyway.

Hi Bluejay. Glad to hear all is well with the transition.

Sorry, guys, but I agree with Andrew - unless you normally are booting from a floppy (dual-boot with Linux, for instance) or a CD-ROM ("live" Linux distro, for example), you should put the hard disk first in the sequence and avoid seeking a boot record from the floppy or CD-ROM, speeding up the process and saving the hardware (a tiny amount in both cases, but unless you are constantly booting from different media, why not do yourself the favor, unless, of course, you can't remember how to change the boot sequence...)
Good luck.
