OK, so i have just built this new PC. Theres a 160Gb Maxtor hard drive, amd3000+, a coolermaster aero7+ fan and heatsink, a Matsonic MS8147c+ mainboard, dvdrw, dvd drive, floppy drive, and a QTec Gold Twin fan psu.

I have a major problem with this PC as it decides that it is going to reboot itself after 30 seconds after loading windows XP. And it keeps doing this, it just does not stop. I have no idea what to do, I have cleared the CMOS thinking that there might have been some wrong settings in there, and i have also reinstalled XP. Some feedback would be really helpful, as I am hoping to sell this PC in the near future....

Sounds like something is causing a fatal error and causing the rebboting. This is XP's default behavior which isn't always particularly helpful in my opinion.

You can change this in;

My Computer/Properties/Advanced/Startup & Recovery/Settings

untick Automatic Restart.

This should bring up a BSOD instad of rebooting which might give you some idea of what's causing the failure although the messages can be very cryptic !

Also go into the Administration Tools / Event Viewer and check out the logged errors there.

i am not given long enuff, and when i do try to click on the properties it generates an Error Report, which does not give -any- useful information. I have tried unticking Automatically Restart in Safe Mode, but it says that Alerter must be running....ok it did work and i got this blue screen message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart you computer, press F8 to select Advanced startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

If ZBoris is correct, then just go into your BIOS and make sure the Shutdown Temperature is set to disabled in the PC Health Status.
If that is not the problem then reinstall your sound drivers. Try disabling your onboard sound also thru your BIOS. Set VIA-3058 AC97 Audio to disabled.
