Can anyone tell me why my computer suddenly start re-booting by itself while doing anything ? It happen while surfing and then again while playing AoE. Is there an auto re-boot on error or something in XP Pro or what ? I've never seen that happening before today.

Go to:

1 -Start / settings / control panel / system

2- Choose the ADVANCE TAB
3- START UP & RECOVERY [ SETTINGS ]
4- IN THE SYSTEM FAILURE, UNCHECK "Automatically Restart "

Well an easier way is to right click on "My Computer", choose Properties, Select the Advanced tab, and click the settings button on the bottom (Startup and recovery). (I had some trouble finding it from the control panel).

Anyway, it depends on how the reboots occur. If the restart is instant with no warning, I would think it's a hardware problem. Particularly if no changes to the system have been made earlier.

This could be caused by a failing power supply, loose power connector on the hard drives, CPU overheat, or defective motherboard.

One way to test this is to run a benchmark program like sisoft sandra and leave it alone. If it suddenly restarts you have a hardware problem.

Tek.
