I've recently installed windows xp on my computer. After installation, my rear speakers doesn't work anymore. I made sure i had all the cables connected correctly and selected surround sound as my speakers. Does anyone know how to fix this? Oh, and my sound card is a soundblaster pci128.

I also have this problem on an SB Live! 5.1 . Every time I reboot the rear speakers stop working. However, if I run the Creative Mixer program that came with it, and re-select 4 speakers, they start working again.
Hope this helps.

Even though you installed XP and it recognized and uses the driver, it doesn't mean that the driver is TRULY compatible with windows XP. Did you check the manufacturer site to see that you had the LATEST XP compatible driver?
I had the same situation with my Sound Blaster Audigy and took me awhile to round up all the XP drivers (since Creative only offers driver updates and not BASE driver files :(

I had the exact same problem. I did however take the two hours to call tech support (not toll free) and get a fix. Go to the dreative website and navigate to the support and drivers area. You need to get a file labeled PCI512xpDrvUpdate. Once downloaded. Instal from a temp directory. I head to actually run it once, reboot, then run it again. The first install only copies the files to the correct spot, the second install actually will update your drives. These drivers also speed up the loading of the sound and windows envirnment. Works great ever since. Good luck.
