hi, i'm running windows xp professional, and i have a netgear fa311 network adapter that connects to my cable modem. i want my laptop to be able to acccess the internet through this modem, and so i installed a second network adapter. windows xp automatically installed the Realtek RTL8139/810X Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC driver, which doesnt work. i get the message "Network Cable Unplugged" in my network connections. also, no lights are on on my network card. this is the second one i have installed, so i'm not sure whether the first was faulty (as it had the exact same problem). thanks. aman

If no lights are on, check your network cable. Even if the driver doesn't work, at least a light should light up on your card.
Another thing can be that the network card is defective. The RJ45 jack can be defective. I think it is a hardware problem.
