If a modern pci card doesn't show in system hardware properties (go there first) either working or with an icon not working then you will have to try to reseat the card or get a new one. There is only a very small chance of irq or other issues but it should still report to the pci buss.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

If it had a caution sign then it could be that when you uninstalled it, it still hasn't got the drivers for that ethernet card.

If the ethernet is on the motherboard then goto the motherboards website and type in the motherboard number (if your lucky it will be one of the big numbers on the board often a little lower than the heatsink, but not always)

If you can't find the motherboard model then try SIW from http://www.gtopala.net/download.php... this will give you more info than Device Manager.

When its downloaded open it up and on the left hand side either click Hardware->Motherboard and make a note of the model number of your board or get the ehternet chipset number direct by clicking Hardware->PCI and looking for an entry that realtes to Ethernet.

Admittedly though if you wern't sure where Device Manager was this might be a little bit like information overload.

Good luck anyway,
adam

I can only guess but that looks like a software adapter not a hardware network adapter, like something AOL would use. If you are after a ethernet network connection then you should install the drivers for that and (without knowing exactly how you connect to the net and it might be worth letting us know) uninstall the WAN mini ports.

You have a "Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC" network card on a M1689D motherboard (which i've checked and doesn't look right, i think you've got that bit wrong).

You should in theory just get the automatic driver setup and away you go. This link should help. Its the driver for a Realtek RTL8139 network card.

ftp://210.51.181.211/cn/nic/PCI_Install_5681(installshield%2012_1.14).zip

Once downloaded, unzip and run setup. This should work assuming i got the right link for you and your hardware is working and your etc. etc. etc....

Regards,
Adam

Assuming you have successfully installed the network card drivers, you just need to plug in your ethernet cable, and attach to your router.

An unattached network card will give two TV's at the bottom right of the screen with a red x. An attached network card will either have two TV's or dissapear when you plug your lead in.

Have a look in Device Manager and see if there are now more devices listed under the network adapter section. You should see something relating to RealTek.

At this point i'm not sure if the wan miniports are a problem or not. To make sure, right click each WAN Miniport entry in device manager and click disable, then go to Control Panel->Network Settings and delete all you that are able to EXCEPT the realtek lan connection (not that you wouldn't be able to delete this anyway). Look for bridges gateways etc.. delete it all.

If that doesn't work make sure you uninstall all programs that could change your Internet Settings such as AOL etc.. I'm a bit vague here though as without looking at your system i can't tell, you will just have to make an educated guess.

Good Luck,
Adam

Sorry just read an earlier post i missed. If you have one computer connecting to another and then to the internet, yes that could affect things and what i told you to do would affect what your trying.

I would go back to basics make sure your computer is connected to a router that gives out IP addresses and just concetrate on getting that to work first.
