Hello,

My computer just had a supposed "clean install" from windowsXP to professionalXP.
However as i've 5 yrs worth of files all keeped in "my documents" folder that was just renamed to a different file name (CAUSE COPY AND PASTE WASN"T WORKING) such as "88" now can see that the file is there and the file had about thirteen gigs of my own collect works and storage used, it totally says that the file has nothing in the properties after all this carefull install... though the thing that is really strange about it all is the entire sytem reads 22 gigs after new install.. so the files seems to have to be somewhat currupt and storage infomation hidden in the backround, cause we all know that a new os's don't not take up this much space... so it's possible seeming that the files are still redeemible from the old OS ... ?? Well, can it still? is this really possible like all hi-tech detectives claim ? ? It says the storage is being used and that file is there "re-named 88" (the only thing looks as if it locked the code on the folder being a "my doc" folder and reclaim! any one could help me break the code?? !!

Thanks, Ann

Try going to your C drive then Documents and Settings. On mine I just chased my name down about 4 layers and finally found my original 'My Documents" folder. I had backed my data to a different hard drive and when it was restored some files common to the new os get buried. My backup was from WinME to XP Pro. Happy hunting.

if the file is there and was marked as private previously you'll have to log in as an administrator and 'claim' the folder so you can access it, otherwise it'll be there, you just won't be able to access it as it'll be locked..
