Reading Sim Card Via Serial Port

I have a sim card (the mobile phone kind) and i have a serial port sim card reader provided by a company that is no longer in business - i can only access the card through their old software that can't be updated - is it possible to access the card like a removable drive? (i.e. like I access my secure digital cards - through an explorer window)
Summary: You can buy USB SIM card readers. You put the SIM card into the reader pretty much like you would with any other card reader only this will only read SIM cards. You then and plug it into a USB port....
