now my windows has been activated with my me new hardware should i ever need to formatt will i b able to activate online using my orignal cd key

no you won't, you will have to call microsoft again, but that is not a problem as long asyou are not installing on mutiple machines

get yourself a disk imaging program... every one should have one anyway... they make life so convenient.
set upyour C drive with the basic programs (firewall, office, etc) then do a disk image.
disk image programs copy your disk byte for byte, sector for sector.
once you have a disk image, youwon't ever have to waorry about key codes, re installs, or anything.
Screw up your c drive... no big deal... restore the image in 15 minutes and your back up and running. everything is exactly the same as it was when you recorded the image... even the email you had in your box at the time.

don't forget that costs money, you will need another drive, and the software to copy it (which for most hard drives the software comes with) and also don't forget that every time you make a change to the computer, install something, you will have to make another image, and depeding on how much you transfer that can take much longer than "15mins"

I should also add that I have disk images of win2000, 98, 95, 3.1, dr dos and a few others.
Inside of 10 minutes I can wipe XP completely off the disk, install my win95 image complete with programs, and it's like I never left win 95 in the first place.

wouldnt it be easier to save a copy of the wpa file for xp and replace it in safemode after a re-install (just for XP of course)

you miss the point.
re installing or correcting an OS problem is not a big deal. What takes time (LOTS OF TIME!) is reloading at setting up all of your programs to what you had before, including formatting and defraging. With a disk image you don't have to do any of that... re install your image and away you go... EXACTLY the way it was before. no fuss no muss

from what i get out of the original post was an activation question. not setting OS back to pryor state as in programs etc.... correct?

It's an all in one answer...goes far beyond just simply repairing an activation code. You don't like the opinion.... okay no problem!....don't read!
