Slave the drive to another computer and then copy your data that you need to save...

Make sure all connections are seated properly to the hdd. If it still doesn't show in the BIOS then make sure the jumpers are set properly and/or replace the cables!

If you replaced the motherboard with an exact model board then you should be able to reinstall the operating system without problems.

If you upgraded to a newer or different motherboard then you must purchase a new copy (with license) of XP for that computer. If not then you will be quilty of piracy by the EULA of the XP operating system.

Microsoft sees a new (diferent) motherboard as a whole new computer...which is why the system failed to start as it did not recognize any of the pre check valadations when you booted it up!

Run setup from the XP CD, but don't actually reinstall Windows. Instead run the repair option by hitting R when XP gives you that option. That will preserve all of your data and programs, though you should backup anyway as suggested earlier in case something goes wrong. You will then have to redo all of the updates, though. You should not have to purchase another license if you have a retail version of XP. Just call MS and tell them you out in a new motherboard. They should give you a series of numbers to enter that will reactivate XP.
