well when you put the windows xp cd in your cd-ro and reboot, it should give an option to boot to cd...do that. when installing the windows xp it should ask to creat a partition, you can create partitions or use the entire hdd for the install (which will creat one large partition). then xp will ask what format you want when you install it, do ntfs and then it will format and copy some files to the drive, then it will restart and finish installation, then it should be good to go

In addition to Tony's suggestion above, I suggest that when you get to the point in the install where you have the option to format your harddrive, first remove all partitions completely. That cleans all data off the drive. Then create one large partition encompassing the entire harddrive(if that's what you want), and format your new partition in NTFS. I suggest NTFS because it is a far superior and more efficient file system than FAT32. After the format is finished, the XP install will automatically begin.

Alright heres the deal.... I am on a laptop right now with my desktop next to me. It says, C: Partition1 [NTFS] 19085 MB.
Unpartitioned space 8 MB.

I click Enter to install on Patition1..it says to install xp on partition setup must write some startup files on following disk: Unknown Disk

However this disk does not contain a windows xp compatible partition.

it says farther below....

to continue iunstalling windoes xp return to the partition selextion screen and create a windows xp-compatible partition on the disk above.

There is obviously enough space for XP since i had it on here before. I am wondering if it has something to do with it being Unknown Disk? something else im missing? NEED HELP FAST!
